⚠️ Shared facility and shared case. Every flavor is produced in a facility that also handles peanuts, tree nuts, milk, wheat and soy. We cannot guarantee any flavor is free of trace amounts, and the same scoops and case are shared across flavors. If you have a severe allergy, please talk to us before you order — we would much rather have the conversation.

Spumoni predates almost everything else on this list. It comes out of Naples, where the trick was to layer contrasting gelati into a mould so that a single slice gave you three flavors and three colors at once — and it is the direct ancestor of the Neapolitan brick in every American freezer, which kept the three-stripe idea and quietly dropped the cherries and the nuts.

We keep them. Full-bodied dark Belgian chocolate, Italian pistachio, and Amarena cherries from Bologna — small, dark, intensely sour-sweet cherries steeped in their own syrup, and nothing like a maraschino. The name spumoni comes from spuma, foam, for the way the layers were whipped before moulding.

It is the flavor people either grew up with or have never heard of, and it wins over both. Order it if you cannot decide — it is the only thing in the case that answers the question for you.

Questions we get asked

What is in spumoni?

Dark chocolate gelato, pistachio gelato and Amarena cherry, swirled together. Amarena are dark Italian sour cherries — closer to a preserved cherry than to a maraschino.

Is spumoni the same as Neapolitan?

Neapolitan descends from it. Spumoni is the original Naples version with chocolate, pistachio and cherry; the American strawberry-vanilla-chocolate brick is what the idea became after crossing the Atlantic.

Does spumoni contain nuts?

Yes — both peanuts and tree nuts, along with milk, soy and egg. This is the most allergen-heavy flavor in our rotation. Read the dietary details on this page carefully.
